1. Who we are

Roadworks Radar (the “Service”) helps users monitor live and upcoming roadworks along their saved routes and areas. Our website is https://www.roadworksradar.uk (the “Site”). We are the controller of your personal data when you use the Site and Service.

2. What this policy covers

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use and share it, and your rights under UK data protection law (UK GDPR/Data Protection Act 2018). If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Service.

3. Data we collect

Account and identity data
• Email address; name (if provided by Google when you sign in); profile image (if you sign in with Google).

Usage and service data
• Routes/areas you save (including addresses you enter, coordinates, route geometry, and derived H3 cells/centroids used for geospatial matching).
• Notification preferences (e.g., evening digest on/off, frequency).
• Logs, device and browser information (IP address, user agent) for security and debugging.

Payments
• We do not store full card details. Subscription billing is processed by our payment provider (currently Stripe). Stripe processes payment data as an independent controller/processor – see their privacy notice.

Emails
• Transactional emails (magic links, receipts) and digests are sent via our email provider (currently Resend). We store basic delivery metadata.
• Customer support messages and in‑app chat are handled by our support provider (currently Crisp). If you contact support through the chat widget or by email, your message (and any details you choose to provide, such as email or name) may be processed by Crisp to help us respond and keep a conversation history.

Cookies and similar technologies
• Essential cookies for session and authentication (e.g., sign‑in session).
• Analytics and marketing cookies from third parties when you use the Site — see section 6 (e.g., DataFast, Google Analytics, Meta Pixel).

4. How we use your data (lawful bases)

• Provide and operate the Service (contract) – account creation, route matching, dashboards.
• Billing and subscription management (contract) – via Stripe.
• Email delivery (contract/legitimate interests) – magic links, receipts, digests you enable.
• Security, fraud prevention and service improvement (legitimate interests).
• Compliance with law and enforcement requests (legal obligation).

5. Sharing your data

We share data only with service providers that help us operate the Service:
• Stripe (payments and customer portal)
• Resend (email delivery)
• Crisp (customer support chat and ticketing)
• MongoDB Atlas (database)
• Vercel (hosting)
• Mapping/geospatial services used to render maps and compute routes (e.g., Mapbox)
• DataFast (website analytics and conversion measurement)
• Google (Google Analytics / GA4 — website analytics)
• Meta (Facebook Pixel — website analytics and advertising measurement)

Roadworks data comes from third‑party sources (including the UK Department for Transport and local authorities). We do not sell your personal data.

6. Analytics, advertising pixels, and cookies

We use the following tools to understand how the Site and Service are used, measure marketing performance, and improve the product:

DataFast — page views, on‑site events (e.g., button clicks, scroll depth), device/browser, and approximate location. May set cookies such as datafast_visitor_id and datafast_session_id.

Google Analytics (GA4) — page views, sessions, device/browser, and approximate location. May set cookies such as _ga and _ga_*.

Meta (Facebook) Pixel — page views and interactions for analytics and advertising measurement. May set cookies such as _fbp and _fbc.

These providers may collect IP addresses and similar identifiers. Where required by law (including UK PECR), we obtain your consent before setting non‑essential analytics and advertising cookies. You can opt out by rejecting non‑essential cookies in your browser settings, using privacy browser extensions, or provider opt‑out tools (e.g., Google Analytics opt‑out: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout; Meta ad preferences: https://www.facebook.com/settings/ads).

Legal basis: our legitimate interests in service improvement and marketing measurement, and/or your consent (for non‑essential cookies). DataFast acts as our processor (see https://datafa.st/terms). Google and Meta act as separate processors under their respective privacy policies (https://policies.google.com/privacy and https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy). We will execute provider DPAs where required.

7. International transfers

Our providers may process data outside the UK. We use providers that implement appropriate safeguards (e.g., UK Addendum to SCCs or equivalent) for international transfers.

8. Retention

We keep your account and route data while you have an account and for a reasonable period afterwards, or as required by law. Payment records are retained per tax/legal obligations. You can request deletion of your account data – see Your rights below.

9. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. No system is perfectly secure; please keep your sign‑in method secure and report any suspected compromise.

10. Your rights

Subject to conditions and exemptions in law, you may have the right to: access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing, and the right to data portability. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.

11. Children

The Service is not intended for children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will notify you (for example by email or in‑app). Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.

13. Contact
